Contortion of the Mind

István Orosz is an extremely talented artist and illustrator from Hungary. Aside from his talented hand he also has an extremely complex mind. He specializes in anamorphic drawings, but not just any anamorphic drawings. He creates complex images, that when viewed in the reflection of a polished cylinder, create entirely different, yet still related, illustrations. See for yourself…

Dust in the Wind

Tim O’Brien has created a variety of political pieces of art throughout his career. Many of which have been featured on the cover of Time Magazine. One recent work you may remember is his illustration of a blood red cross over the face of Osama Bin Ladin. His most recent piece for Time Magazine is perhaps his strongest yet. It depicts a nearly defeated dictator simply blowing away as if he were made of sand.

Wikipedia – a friend or a foe

When someone types your company name into Google, you want to own as many of the results as possible. Your company web site, your blog, your Facebook business page, your Yelp listing, and other business profile pages will often rank highly. This is good. You control these pages, and the more search results you control, the less likely an angry blogger or questionable news article will show up on page one.

Where is Angry Paul Rand?

Twitter used to have frequent postings by someone acting as the ghost of Paul Rand and tweeting his dissatisfaction and overall animosity with the current state of the design business. For anyone not familiar with him, Paul Rand was an American graphic designer best known for his corporate logo designs, including IBM, UPS, Enron, Westinghouse, and ABC.

A few of his rants included:

“You kids keep worrying about what tools you should use for making design. You know what I used? A pencil, a dry martini and some balls.”

“I was making the most amazing graphic design in history when you were still f**king around with Comic Sans and a Sharpie.”

“David Carson set an article in Dingbats. I once downed too many vodka gimlets and puked on a press sheet. At least mine made f**king sense.”

Angry Paul disappeared sometime last year and i was a little disappointed that i could no longer look forward to his angry humor, but nevertheless his words continue to live on and inspire.
